The Beginning
In 1988, Youth Haven's President Larry Carlson personally experienced the trauma of an extended hospital stay when his youngest son was admitted with a brain tumor (since healed). From this trial, our Caring Clowns ministry was born. Seeing children's faces light up with laughter and smiles when a clown would visit, Larry saw an opportunity to incorporate the message of Christian love.
The Need
The need is great! Children coping with illness & disease delight in the cheerful antics of our caring staff. Taking time to hand deliver a card of encouragement is a minimal sacrifice compared to the overflowing blessings our staff receive.

During the school year, our programming staff pay monthly visits to the children's wards of different area hospitals. While there, they share love and caring through various jokes, magic tricks, coloring activities, and more. The results of this special outreach among the children, their parents and the hospital staff are far reaching. Hearts are touched and lives are changed through our Caring Clowns outreach.
